Welcome to Renaissance Box
Program Description
|
Renaissance Box is a 12-week immersive residency where artists and STEM professionals collaborate across disciplines, exploring social issues, emerging technologies, creative experimentation, and ways to engage the public. Selected participants are paired with a co-resident from an opposing field, an artist with a STEM professional, or vice versa, forming partnerships that spark innovation, broaden perspectives, and build lasting professional connections.
|
Selected residents receive stipends and dedicated studio spaces, as well as access to Cleveland’s rich network of cultural institutions, labs, studios, and community resources. The program’s structured residency format supports focused creative development while encouraging experimentation and public engagement, culminating in collaborative projects that are exhibited and shared with the community. Renaissance Box leverages the city’s artistic and scientific ecosystem to propel innovation and inspire meaningful dialogue between fields.

Renaissance Box provided me the time, space and tools to try new things and to connect with people across a spectrum of science based occupations. It's a wonderful program for anyone looking to create meaningful connections at the intersection of art and science.

Build a lifelong connection with a co-participant, a fellow Renaissance Box Residency resident from a complementary field, access a dedicated studio within Ingenuity Cleveland’s 100,000-square-foot incubator, IngenuityLabs, and bring your collaborative project to life.
As part of the Renaissance Box Residency, participants develop a collaborative project that culminates in an exhibition at Ingenuity Cleveland. Co-participants also host public engagement events, including hands-on workshops or gallery talks, sharing their process, inspiration, and themes with the community. |
Residents benefit from studio visits with local artists, scientists, and STEM professionals, who offer insight, feedback, and inspiration. We also arrange impactful field trips to museums, labs, and cultural institutions, providing experiences and connections that enrich projects and foster collaboration.
Set in Cleveland, Ohio, a city celebrated for both artistic expression and scientific innovation, the residency immerses participants in a vibrant ecosystem of resources, ideas, and community connections designed to support creativity and lasting impact. |
How Does Renaissance Box Work?
If your proposal is accepted, you will be paired with a co-participant whose expertise complements, but comes from a different field than your own. You will not meet your co-participant until orientation, and the only information shared beforehand is about the proposal that were selected. This pairing encourages fresh perspectives, sparks innovative ideas, and challenges you to explore your project through a new lens.
Residents receive 24/7 studio access, access to tools and workshops, and a $1000 stipend. During the residency, residents participate in three off-site field trips designed to directly benefit their project, as well as studio visits from local artists, scientists, and STEM professionals who provide insight and feedback while their project is in progress.
At the conclusion of the residency, residents are required to engage with the public through a program that's free and open to the public, which may take the form of an exhibition, talk, or workshop. Participation in IngenuityFest is also required, ensuring your work is shared with a wider community and connected to the city’s vibrant arts and innovation ecosystem.
